Phil was born in Lancaster, in the North West of England and lived in Cumbria until he moved to Rhode Island. Phil played for Carlisle United as a youth and reserve team player from 2007-11. 


In the fall of 2011, Phil began his four year career at Division one Providence College. In his senior season, he co-captained the team to its first Final Four appearance and was named as the fourth All-American in the schools history. As well as this, Towler was a Second Team All-BIG East honoree, was named to the NSCAA Great Lakes All-Regional First Team, was a one-time member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and was a College Madness BIG EAST 2014 All-Conference Second Team selection.


After graduating from Providence College in 2015 with a degree in Business Management, Phil pursued his passion for coaching as he joined the Assumption College Men’s Soccer team as the Assistant Coach. 


Phil returned to Providence College in the fall of 2016 to begin a Masters program as well as to become an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. 


Since graduating from PC’s school of continuing education, Phil has continued to coach soccer in the community at the high school and youth level.
